Disclaimers, Kudos and notes:   All songs are owned by the artists and studios.  I lay absolutely no claim to them.  I make no money, gold pressed latinum, Republic Daitari, etc from this page.   Kudos to the artists of these gorgeous, lovely, moving and powerful songs.  Music lift’s one’s spirit and your magical melodies have brought me great joy, love and life.

Apologies for any mis-typed lyrics and other errors, though I have endeavoured to transcribe well and give credit.

Please note that I will remove lyrics if I am asked to do so by the artists and/or studios, in respect for the artists.  However, I will still list the track title and links where the songs and albums can be purchased from.

Notes:  I was inspired by my best mate Annie.  She made the first Lore tape of songs that reminded her about Lore.  It was so cool and I loved it so much, I went crazy making my own.  I stopped after number 7.  I thought I had finished.

Lore, on the other had, had other plans … ;)

With the help of Annie, Red Skye and Lyric websites, I have transcribed each of the songs (bar the instrumental ones, of course) and given my feelings on how the songs and pieces relate to Lore and/or Data.  Some serious, some moving, some silly and funny, some promiscuous J and some well just felt right!

Rating M –For a few naughtie songs!! ;)

LYRICS TO Cryin’ … Waitin’ … Hopin’ …

1.         WATERMARK (Enya, Instrumental, 1989)

This gentle song reminds me of how lonely Lore is and how much he needs someone and how hard he's struggling with his inner pain.  He wants to be gentle and loved, but it's hard with so much anger and bitterness at the way he was treated, but he wants to move forward and needs guidance.

2.  ANY DREAM WILL DO              (Michael Crawford, 1991)

(Any dream...)

I close my eyes

Draw back the curtain

To see for certain

What I thought I knew

Far, far away

Someone was weeping,

But the world was sleeping

Any dream will do

I wore my coat  (I wore my coat)

With golden lining  (Ah, ah, ah)

Bright colours shining (Oh, oh)

Wonderful and new  (Wonderful and new)

And in the East  (And in the East)

The dawn was breaking (Ah, ah, ah)

The world was waking (Oh, oh)

Any dream will do

A crash of drums

A flash of light

My golden cloak

Flew out of sight

The colours faded into darkness

I was left alone   (oh, oh, ohh)

Today I return  (Today I return)

To the beginning  (Ah, ah, ah)

The light is dimming  (Oh, oh)

And the dream is too (And the dream is too)

The world and I  (The world and I)

We are still waiting  (Ah, ah, ah)

Still hesitating  (Oh, oh)

Any dream will do

A crash of drums

A flash of light

My golden cloak

Flew out of sight

The colours faded into darkness

I was left alone   (oh, oh, ohh)

Today I return  (Today I return)

To the beginning  (Ah, ah, ah)

The light is dimming  (Oh, oh)

And the dream is too (And the dream is too)

The world and I  (The world and I)

We are still waiting  (Ah, ah, ah)

Still hesitating  (Oh, oh)

Any dream will do  (Oh, ahh ohh)

Still hesitating  (Oh, oh)

Any dream will do  (Oh, ahh ohh)

(Any dream ...)

(Any dream will do)

(Any dream)

Any dream will do ,,,

This song represents Lore's dreaming, and his hesitation to dream, in case he gets hurt yet again.  Nice tune too.  He's waiting to dream.  Any dream will do.

3.         ALL I ASK OF YOU  (Michael Crawford, 1994)

No more talk of darkness

Forget these wide eyed fears

I'm here, nothing can harm you

My words will warm and calm you

Let me be your freedom

Let daylight dry your tears

I'm here with you beside you

To guard you and to guide you

Say you love me

Every waking moment

Turn my head with talk of Summertime

Say you need me

With you now and always

Promise me that's all I ask of you

Let me be your shelter

Let me be your light

You're safe no one will find you

Your fears are far behind you

All I want is freedom

A world with no more night

And you always beside me

To hold me and to hide me

Then say you'll share with me

One love one lifetime

Let me lead you from your solitude

Say you need me with you here beside you

Anywhere you go let me go too

Love me, that's all I ask of you

Say you'll share with me

One love one lifetime

Say the word and I will follow you

Share each day with me

Each night, each morning

Say you love me

You know I do

Love me, that's all I ask of you

Anywhere you go, let me go too

Love me, that's all I ask of you

This represents to me, Lore and Data talking, Lore being the female voice.  He's scared, but Data wants to protect him, despite their past.  All Lore wants is love.

4.         BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER (??, 198?)

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder

And that's what I want to do

Hold you in my life forever

Just keep on loving you

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder

So take a special heart to see

And just have to believe

In the seasons of the beauty

The things you and me (?)

Look for the beauty

Please ...

This lovely, moving song was by a blind man in an episode of Mork and Mindy."  He sings it to his father.  I apologise, but I do not know the name of the singer of the exact year - A short and sweet song, showing, Lore has his own beauty, one only has to look.  Please.

No matter how strange or bizarre you are,
there'll always be someone who'll love you for it.

- "Mork and Mindy"

5.         WISHING YOU WERE SOMEHOW HERE AGAIN  (Michael Crawford,

                                                                                                   1991)

You were once my one companion

You were all that mattered

You were once a friend and father

Then my world was shattered

Wishing you were somehow here again

Wishing your were somehow near

Sometimes it seemed

If I just dreamed

Somehow you would be here

Wishing I could hear your voice again

Knowing that I never would

Dreaming of you won't help me to do

All that you dreamed I could

Passing bells and sculpted angels

Cold and monumental

Seem for you the wrong companions

You were warm and gentle

Too many years fighting back tears

Why can't the past just die

Wishing you were somehow here again

Knowing we must say goodbye

Try to forgive

Teach me to live

Give me the strength to try

No more memories

No me silent tears

No more gazing across the wasted years

Help me say goodbye

Help me say goodbye...

Lore could be talking about either his father or Data.  He wants their guidance.  He feels guilty for his father's death and wants so say goodbye properly and to let go his painful past.

6.         I HAVE TO KNOW  (Michael Crawford, 1991)

I only want to say

If there is a way

Take this cup away from me

For I don't want to drink its poison

Feel it burn me

I have changed

I'm not as sure as when we started

Then I was inspired

Now I'm sad and tired

Listen surely, I've exceeded expectations

Tried for three years, seems like thirty

Could you ask as much from any other man?

But if I die

See the saga through

Do the things you ask of me

Let them hate me, hit me, hurt me

Nail me to the tree

I wanna know, I wanna know

My God!

I wanna know, I wanna know

My God!

I wanna see, I wanna see

My God!

I wanna see, I wanna see

My God!

Why I should die

Would I be more noticed

Than I ever was before

Would the things I've said and done

Matter any more?

I have to know I have to know

My Lord!

I have to know I have to know

My Lord!

I have to see, I have to see

My Lord!

I have to see, I have to see

My Lord!

If I die, what will be my reward?

If I die, what will be my reward?

I have to know I have to know

My Lord!

I have to know I have to know

My Lord!

Why should I die?

Oh!  Why should I die?

Can you show me now that now

That I will not be killed in vain

Show me just a little

Of your omnipresent brain

Show me there's a reason

For your wanting me to die

You’re far too keen on where and how

Not so hot on why

All right ... I'll die ...

Just watch me die

See how I die

SEE HOW I DIE ...

Then, I was inspired

Now I'm sad and tired

After all I tried for three years

Seems like ninety

Why then an I scared to finish

What I started

What you started ..

I didn't start it

God thy will is hard

But you hold every card

I will drink your cup of poison

Take me to your cross and break me

Leave me, beat me

Kill me, take me

Now ...

Before I change my mind

Now, before I change my mind...

Fuck.  That about sums it up.  This song is so damned gut wrenchingly powerful!  It kicks major booty.   Not that it needs an explanation, but it's about Lore wondering why he should die, on top of all his suffering, and finally accepting the fact, in hope of a better future.

Note: The actual title for this song is Gethsemane, from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Jesus Christ ~ Superstar.

I thought I Have to Know was a more fitting title for Lore.  The song is also called I Only Want to Say, which I also love for Lore.   (Seawave’s Pick I)

7.         THE ROSE  (Bette Midler, 1995)

Some say Love it is a river

That drowns the tender reed

Some say Love it is a razor

That leaves your soul to bleed

Some say Love it is a hunger

And endless aching need

I say Love it is a flower

And you its only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking

That never learns to dance

It's the dream

Afraid of waking

That never takes the chance

It's the one who won't be taken

Who cannot seem to give

And the soul afraid of dying

That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely

And the road had been too long

And you think that love is only

For the lucky and the strong

Just remember in the Winter

Far beneath the bitter shows

Lies the seed with the sun's love

In the Spring becomes the rose

This explores Lore's inner feelings, his bitter experiences of love, but there's a glimmer of hope under all that ice that covers his heart, like a determined seedling, struggling through.

8.         TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART  (Nicki French, 1995)  - Original Version

            by Bonnie Tyler

(Turn around)

Every now and then I get a little bit lonely

And you're never comin' round

(Turn around)

Every now and then I get a little bit tired

Of listenin' to he sound of my tears

(Turn around)

Every now and then I get a little bit

Nervous that the best of all the years have gone by

(Turn around)

Every now and then I get a little bit terrified

And then I see the look in your eyes

(Turn around, wide eyes)

Every now and then I fall apart

(Turn around, wide eyes)

Every now and then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight

And I need you more than ever

And if you're lonely hold me tight

We'll be holding on forever

And we'll only be making it right

'Cos we'll never be wrong together

Once upon a time I was falling in love

Now I'm only falling apart

Nothin' I can do,

A total eclipse of the heart

(Turn around)

Every now and then I know

You'll never be the boy you always wanted to be

(Turn around)

Every now and then I know

You'll always be the only boy who wanted me that way that I am

(Turn around)

Every now and then I know

There's no one in the Universe as magical and wondrous as you

(Turn around)

Every now and then I know

There's nothing any better, there's nothing I just wouldn't do

(Turn around, wide eyes)

Every now and then I fall apart

(Turn around, wide eyes)

Every now and then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight

And I need you more than ever

And if you're lonely hold me tight

We'll be holding on forever

And we'll only be making it right

'Cos we'll never be wrong ...

Together we can make it to the end of the night

Love is like (?) all of the time

I don't know what to do

I know we've seen it bad

Living in a powder keg

Giving off (?)

I really need you to love

Forever's gonna start tonight

Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love

Now I'm only falling apart

Nothin' I can do,

A total eclipse of the heart

Once upon a time there was love in my life

Now there's only love in the dark

Nothin' I can say

A total eclipse of the heart

Nothin' I can do

A total eclipse of the heart

Nothin' I can do

A total eclipse of the heart

Nothin' I can do

A total eclipse of the heart...

This song again represents Lore's heart wanting to open and be receptive to love, but is afraid of hurt.  He's calling out to Data to be with him, as he feels he can't do it alone.

9.         DESPERADO  (The Eagles, 1973)

Desperado ...

Why don't you come to your senses?

You been out ridin' fences for so long now

Oh, you're a hard one, I know that you got your reasons,

These things that are pleasin' you can hurt you somehow.

Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy

She'll beat you if she's able,

You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet

Now it seems to me some fine things

Have been laid upon your table,

But you only want the ones that you can't get

Desperado ...

Oh, you ain't gettin' no younger,

Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home

And freedom, oh, freedom, well, that's just some people talkin',

Your prison is walkin' through this world all alone

Don't your feet get cold in the winter time

The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine,

It's hard to tell the nighttime from the day

You're losin' all your highs and lows

Ain't it funny how the feelin' goes away

Desperado ...

Why don't you come to your senses?

Come down from your fences, open the gate

It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you

You better let somebody love you (let somebody love you)

You better let somebody love you

Before it's too late

Lore's desperate to break free of his bitter, hateful ways, to be loved and be capable of living, despite his cruel past.   (Seawave’s Pick II)

10.       THE LOGICAL SONG  (Supertramp, 1987)

When I was young
It seemed that life was so wonderful
A miracle

Oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees
Well they'd be singing so happily
Oh joyfully, oh playfully watching me

But then they sent me away
To teach me how to be sensible
Logical, oh responsible, practical

And they showed me a world
Where I could be so dependable
Oh clinical

Oh intellectual, cynical

There are times when all the world's asleep
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am

Now watch what you say
Or they'll be calling you a radical
A liberal

Oh fanatical, criminal
Oh won't you sign up your name
We'd like to feel you're
Acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable

At night when all the world's asleep
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am, who I am, who I am, who I am

Who I am

Who I am

Who I am...

Hey ...

Without being so logical

... Unbelievable ...

This is a cool song!  It’s illogical & weird - and that’s why I love it.  I’d be a radical anyday ;) – And So would Lore!  For me this song represents, at first Lore’s innocence … And then his messed up mind, and confusion at why people treated him so differently, so badly and confused him, sending him round the twist. Why the colonists hated him …. Why his mother and father disassembled him, and left him when all he wanted was their love and approval, all he got was hatred, mistrust and betrayal.   Why didn’t they fix him? …

11.       HOW CAN WE BE LOVERS  (Michael Bolton, 1989)

How can we be lovers if we can't be friends

How can we start over when the fighting never ends, baby

How can we make love if we can't make amends

How can we be lovers if we can't be, can't be friends

Look at us now

Look at us baby,

Still tryin'a work it out

Never get it right

We must be fools

We must be crazy

Whoa, whoa

There's no communication

Whoa, whoa

It's a no win situation

How can we be lovers if we can't be friends

How can we start over when the fighting never ends, baby

How can we make love if we can't make amends

Tell me, how can we be lovers if we can't be, can't be friends

We lie awake

This war between us

We're just not talkin'

We got so much to say

Let's break these chains

Our love can free us

Whoa, whoa

Any time we started tryin'

Whoa, whoa

Gotta stop this love from dyin'

How can we be lovers if we can't be friends

How can we start over when the fighting never ends, baby

How can we make love if we can't make amends

How can we be lovers if we can't be, can't be friends

Baby, baby ... Love is talkin, you can take me (?)

How can we be lovers

Baby, time to love

We can make it

We can work it out

How can we be lovers if we can't be friends

How can we start over when the fighting never ends, baby

How can we make love if we can't make amends

Tell me, how can we be lovers if we can't be, can't be friends

How can we be lovers if we can't be, friends

How can we be lovers

How can we start over when the fighting never ends

How can we be lovers

How can we make love if we can't make amends

How ...

How can we be lovers if we can't be, can't be, friends

How can we be lovers

How can we be lovers if we can't be friends  (Na, na na ....)

How can we start over when the fighting never ends

(Oooh ooohh ohhh) How can we make love if we can't make amends

Tell me, how can we be lovers if we can't be, can't be friends

How can we start over when the fighting never ends, baby

How can we be lovers ...

He's talking to Data here, perhaps not so much in the sense of

being actual lovers, but how can they learn to love each other when there's so much bitterness between them and they both want to reconcile their differences and start afresh.

12.       EVERYBODY HURTS  (R.E.M. 1992)

When the day is long and the night,

The night is yours alone,

When you're sure you've had enough

Of this life,

Well hang on

Don't let yourself go,

'Cos everybody cries and

Everybody hurts

Sometimes ...

Sometimes everything is wrong

Now it's time to sing along

When your day is night alone,

Hold on, hold on

If you feel like letting go,

Hold on

When you think you've had too much

Of this life,

Well hang on

'Cos everybody hurts

Take comfort in your friends

Everybody hurts

Don't throw your hand

Oh, no

Don't throw your hand

If you feel like you're alone

No, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life,

The days and nights are long,

When you think you've had too much

Of this life to hang on

For everybody hurts

Sometimes, everybody cries

And everybody hurts

Sometimes...

And everybody hurts

Sometimes ...

So, hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on

Everybody hurts

... You're not alone ...

This one doesn't really need an explanation ...  But it's Lore's life hurts, and he's not alone in that department .. urging him to hold on, that there's a light at the end of a tunnel, a rainbow after a stormy day.  (Seawave’s Pick III)

13.       PAPA CAN YOU HEAR ME  (Michael Crawford, 1994)

It all began the day I found

When I looked out my window

I could only see piece of sky

I stand outside and looked around

I never dreamed it was so wide

Or even half as high

Papa, can you hear me

Papa, can you see me

Papa, can you find me in the night

Papa, are you near me

Papa, can you hear me

Papa, can you help me not be frightened

Looking at the skies I seem to see a million eyes

Which ones are yours

Where are now that yesterday has waved goodbye

And closed its doors

The night is so much darker

The wind is so much colder

The world I see is so much bigger

Now that I'm alone

Can you hear me praying

Anything I'm saying

Even though the night is filled with voices

I remember everything you taught me

Every book I've ever read

Can all the words in all the books

Help me to face what lies ahead

The trees are so much taller

The night feels so much smaller

The moon is twice as lonely

And the stars are half as bright

Papa how I love you

Papa how I need you

Papa how I miss you kissing me goodnight

I felt the most amazing things

The things you can't imagine

If you've never flown at all

Though it's safer to stay on the ground

Sometimes where danger lies

There the sweetest of pleasures are found

No matter where I go

There'll be memories that target my sleep

But there will also be

(?) a question,

Yet more to believe

Yet tell me where,

Where is the someone

Who will turn to look at me

And want to share my every

Sweet imagined possibility

The more I live

The more I learn

There more I learn

The more I realise

The less I know

Each step I take,

Papa, I've a voice now

Each page I turn

Papa, I've a choice now

Each mile I travel

Only means the more I have to go

What's wrong with wanting more

If you can fly, then soar

With all there is

Why settle for

Just a piece of sky

Papa I can hear you

Papa I can see you

Papa I can feel you

Papa, watch me fly ...

He wants his father to be proud of him, finally putting his past behind him and how much freer and lighter he is without that hatred, looking forward to a fulfilling and rich life.   (Seawave’s Pick IV)

----------------------------

14.       PACIFIC BLUE  (Stefan Schramm, Jonas Kvarnstrom, 1991,            Instrumental)

This instrumental song, with natural whale and dolphin song represents Lore's gentleness and love, even though he has it buried deep down, he wants to show it, but he finds it so hard.  He's calling out to be heard, and hopes there's someone to answer his call.

--------------------

15.       WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR  (Michael Crawford, 1988)

When a star is born

They possess a gift or two

One of them is this

They have the power to make a wish come true

When you wish upon a star

Makes no difference who you are

Anything your heart desires

Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream

No request is to extreme

When you wish upon a star

As dreamers do

Fate is kind,

She brings to those who love

The sweet fulfilment of

Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue

Fate steps in and sees you through

When you wish upon a star

Your dreams come true

(When a star is born

They possess a gift or two

One of them is this

They have the power to make a wish come true)

When you wish upon a star

Makes no difference who you are

Anything your heart desires

Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream

No request is to extreme

When you wish upon a star

Your dream comes true...

A nice one for him, to dare to dream, his hearts desires, be free to love and dream, no matter how daring and extravagant, that one day his dreams of love and acceptance will come true.

16.       NOT A DAY GOES BY  (Michael Crawford, 1988)

Not a day goes by,

Not a single day

You're not somewhere a part of my life

And I need you to stay

As the days go by

I keep thinking

When does it end

That it can't get much better, much longer

But it only gets better

And stronger and deeper

And nearer and simpler

And freer and richer

And clearer and no

Not a day goes by

Not a blessed day

But you somewhere come into my life

And you don't go away

And I have to say

If you do, I'll die

I want day, after day,

After day, after day

After day...

Not a day goes by

Not a single day

But you're somewhere a part of my life

And it looks like you'll stay

As the days go by

I keep thinking

When does it end

Where's the day I'll have started forgetting

But I just go on thinking

And sweating and cursing

And crying and turning

And reaching and waking

And dying and no

Not a day goes by

Not a blessed day

That you're still somehow part of my life

And you won't go away

So there's hell to pay

And until I die,

I'll die day after day,

After day, after day

After day, after day

After day ...

Till the days go by

Till the days go by

Till the days go by

Till the days go by...

He may be talking to either Data or Dr. Soong here, wanting them with him, as he goes on his long, arduous journey to salvation.  he needs their help and guidance to see himself through with their love, nurturing his soul.

There may be a little overkill on Michael Crawford here, but his songs are soooo wonderful and he has such a lovey voice!

--------------------

17.       SHATTERED   (Linda Ronstadt, 1981)

Shattered

Like a window pain

Broken by a storm

Each tiny piece of me

Lies alone

And scattered

For beyond repair

All my shiny dreams just lying there

I'm broken, but I'm laughin'

It's the sound of falling glass

I hope you won't mind

If I should cry

(?) While I wait for this to pass

'Cause, sweet darlin'

I'm shattered

Into fragments (?)

Sweep the pieces all away

And no one will know how much it matters

Something deep inside of me shattered....

Gods.   This song makes me cry.  It is perfect for Lore.  It says to me this is how Lore feels.  He loves Data, but feels as if Data's rejecting him, the lines about "parts" are incredibly moving and very sad "each tiny piece of me lies alone" Lore sings about his disassembly … "for beyond repair," is how Lore feels, although he wants to be repaired, and he wants Data know how much it matters to his man how much he needs him and loves him.   (Seawave’s Pick V)

18.       YOU DON'T BRING ME FLOWERS ANYMORE  (Barbara Striesand,

            Neil Diamond, 1976)

You don't bring me flowers

You don't sing me love songs

You hardly talk to me anymore

When I come through the door

At the end of the day

I remember when

You couldn't wait to love me

You used to hate to leave me

Now after lovin' me late at night

Well it's good for you, Babe

You're feelin' all right

Well you just roll over

And turn off the light

And you don't bring me flowers anymore

You used to be so natural (used to be)

Talk about forever

But used to be's don't count anymore

They just lay on the floor till we sweep away

Baby, I remember all the things you taught me

I learned how to laugh

And I learned how to cry

Well I learned how to love

And I learned how to lie

So you think I could learn

How to tell you goodbye

Could learn how to tell you goodbye

You don't bring me flowers anymore

Well you think I could learn

How to tell you goodbye

You don't say you need my

You don't sing me love songs

You don't bring me flowers anymore ...

This song says tome that Lore really cares for Data, and Data is rejecting him, and he wants Data to know that he loves him, ad it's like Data also wanting to speak to Lore, but they're finding it hard to communicate, but they want to and they want to learn to love each other again.

19.       DON'T GIVE UP  (Peter Gabriel, 1986)

In this proud land we grew up strong

We were wanted all along

I was taught to fight, taught to win

I never thought I could fail

No fight left or so it seems

I am a man whose dreams have all deserted

I've changed my face, I've changed my name

But no one wants you when you lose

Don't give up, 'cause you have friends

Don't give up, you're not beaten yet

Don't give up, I know you can make it good

Though I saw it all around

Never thought I could be affected

Thought that we'd be last to go

It is so strange the way things turn

Drove the night toward my home

The place that I was born on the lake side

As daylight broke I saw the earth,

The trees had burned down to the ground

Don't give up, you still have us

Don't give up, we don't need much of anything

Don't give up, cause somewhere there's a place where we belong

Rest your head, you worry too much

It's gonna be all right

When times get rough

You can fall back on us

Don't give up

Please don't give up

Gotta walk outta here

I can't take anymore

Gonna stand on that bridge

Keep my eyes down below

Whatever may come

Whatever may go

The river's flowin'

That river's flowin'

Moved on to another town

Tried hard to settle down

For every job, so many men,

So many men no one needs

Don't give up, 'cause you have friends

Don't give up, you're not the only one

Don't give up, no reason to be ashamed

Don't give up, you still have us

Don't give up, now, we'll proud of who you are

Don't give up, you know it's never been easy

Don't give up, because I believe there's a place,

There's a place where we belong

This song tells how Lore feels low and upset, and as if no one wants him, because he's felt he's lost and there's a voice inside Lore telling himself not to give up.  Telling him that he has friends who will help him, and they it's okay to muck up. "The trees had burnt down to the ground" seems to say that he fells guilty for what he did to his home planet and wants to be forgiven.  "There's a place were we belong," "you can fall back on us" the voice inside Lore, sticking with him, because it is himself and he's determined not to let himself down and he's trying hard to be accepted.  There is a place where Lore belongs and he will find that place with the help of his friends and his determination.

20.       CATS IN THE CRADLE (Ugly Kid Joe, 1993)

A child arrived just the other day

Chained to the wall in the usual way

There are planes to catch, and bills to pay

And learn to walk while I was away

He was takin' for a minute and as (??)

You said I'm gonna be like you, dad

You know I'm gonna be like you

And the cat's in the cradle,

And the silver spoon

Little Boy Blue

And the Man on the Moon

When you comin' home, son

I don't know when

We'll be together then

You know we'll have a good time then

Well my son turned ten just the other day

Said, thanks for the ball,

Dad, c'mon, let's play

Will you teach me to throw,

I said not today,

I got a lot to do

You said that's okay

Yeah, you walked away and smiled

You said y' know I'm gonna be like him, yeah,

You know I'm gonna be like him

And the cat's in the cradle,

And the silver spoon

Little Boy Blue

And the Man on the Moon

When you comin' home, son

I don't know when

We'll get together then

You know we'll have a good time then

Well I came from collage just the other day

So much like a man

I just had to say

I'm proud of you

Could you sit for a while

He shook his head

And he said with a smile

Wanna be like dad

Is to borrow car keys

See you later, can I have them please?

And the cat's in the cradle,

And the silver spoon

Little Boy Blue

And the Man on the Moon

When you comin' home, son

I don't know when

We'll be together then

You know we'll have a good time then

Long since retired and my son's moved away

I called him up just the other day

I'd like to see you if you don't mind

He said I'd love to Dad, if I could find the time

You see, my new job's askin'

And the kids have the flu,

But it's sure nice talkin' to you, dad

It's been sure nice talkin' to you

As I hung up the phone,

It occurred to me

You've grown up just like me

My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle,

And the silver spoon

Little Boy Blue

And the Man on the Moon

When you comin' home, son

I don't know when

We'll be together then

You know we'll have a good time then

And the cat's in the cradle,

And the silver spoon

Little Boy Blue

And the Man on the Moon

When you comin' home, son

I don't know when

We'll be together then

You know we'll have a good time then...

This song says to me that Lore misses his father.  At first his father didn't have much time for him and abandoned him, he wanted to be with his father and is upset that Dr. Noonian Soong seemed not to want him, and now later in his life there wasn't much time for him to be with his father, and he wishes there was more time, to settle their differences, but since Lore's improving, his father would be proud of him which is worth a great deal.  (Seawave’s Pick VI)

21.       I WANNA KNOW WHAT LOVE IS  (Foreigner, 1984)

I gotta take a little time

A little time to think things over

I better read between the lines

In case I need it when I'm older

This mountain I must climb

Feels like the world upon my shoulders

Through the clouds I see love shines

It keeps me warm as life grows colder

In my life there's been heartache and pain

I don't know if I can face it again

Can't stop now, I've travelled so far

To change this lonely life

I wanna know what love is

I want you to show me

I wanna feel what love is

I know you can show me

Oohhhh....

I'm gonna take a little time

A little time to look around me

I've got nowhere left to hide

It looks like love has finally found me

In my life there's been heartache and pain

I don't know if I can face it again

Can't stop now, I've travelled so far

To change this lonely life

I wanna know what love is

I want you to show me

I wanna feel what love is

I know you can show me

I wanna know what love is

I want you to show me

(I wanna feel)  I wanna feel what love is

I know you can show me

Let's talk about love

I wanna know what love is

Love is a feeling inside

I want you to show me

I'm feelin' so much love

I wanna feel what love is

Ohh, you just gotta hide

I know you can show me

I wanna know what love is  (Let's talk about love)

I know you can show me

And I'm feelin' I wanna feel what love is

And I know, and I know

And I know you can show me...

...I wanna know what love is (I wanna know, I wanna know)

I want you to show me (I know, I know...)

I know you can show me...

"This mountain I must climb"; "Through my life, there's been heartache and pain, I don't know if I could face it again"; it's been a hard struggle, and he's lonely - he's willing to do the hard work and take the risks.

I love this song, it says to me that Lore is young and inexperienced, and he wants to know the true meaning of love.  He wants Data to teach him and show him.  He knows Data can show him.  He needs his brother, and feels guilty about what he's done and he's not embarrassed to ask Data for help, afraid, perhaps, but he's found the courage and he's come a long way and Data will show him, because deep down, he loves his brother too.

22.       JUST AROUND THE RIVER BEND  (Judy Kuhn, [Pocahontas]  1995)

What I love most about rivers is...

You can't step in the same river twice

The water's always changing, always flowing

But people, I guess, can't live like that

We all must pay a price

To be safe, we lose our chance of ever knowing

What's around the river bend

Waiting just around the river bend

I look once more

Just around the river bend

Beyond the shore

Where the gulls fly free

Don't know what for

What I dream the day might send,

Just around the river bend

For me

Coming for me

I feel it there beyond those trees

Or right behind these waterfalls

Can I ignore that sound of distant drumming

For a handsome sturdy husband

To build handsome sturdy walls

And never dreams that something might be coming?

Just around the river bend

Just around the river bend

I look once more

Just around the river bend

Beyond the shore

Somewhere past the sea

Don't know what for...

Why do all my dreams extend

Just around the river bend?

Just around the river bend...

Should I choose the smoothest course

Steady as the beating drum?

Should I marry Kocoum?

Is all my dreaming at end

Or do you still wait for me, Dream Giver

Just around the river bend? ...

Some of the words aren't right (the marriage stuff) I really love this song for Lore.  It says to me that he's free, taking risks he needs to take and he feels so full and free, and happy, and he's eager to look "Just around the river bend..."  Sometimes he's scared that he's not doing the right thing, taking the right course.  Dream Giver might represent Data, or perhaps some special guidance, or both, and they want to help Lore follow his dreams.  (Seawave’s Pick

23.       STAR TREK - FIRST CONTACT (Jerry Goldsmith, 1996, Instrumental)

How could any Lore song set be complete without a Star Trek theme? ;)  This represents Lore's part in the Star Trek saga, his struggle, life and times.  Particularly the First Contact part of the theme, his struggle to be accepted and loved by others, especially Data and his Father, Dr. Noonian Soong, and Juliana O'Donnel, his mother.  For some reason it just reminds me of Lore, even though he was not even mentioned in any of the Trek movies L

Originally to be the last tape in the illustrious LORE series, LORE VI proved to be quite a challenge .. The tape was lost ... and then the words to the songs were lost on the computer and it took the busy mixer over a year to do them again, all the while thinking of some songs that would be suitable for another tape in this series.  And this the decision was made to make a final tape in this installation ... (Which thankfully didn't take as long as LORE VI to get off the ground!)

The Finale, LORE 7 (Full Circle) – behold 2 hour Lore-iffic musical extravaganza!

7 LORE tapes - as many series as Star Treks TNG and DS9!
